Globally, water resources are significantly threatened by various anthropogenic activities,including climate change which is particularly intense in tropical regions, and notably Asia. As a result, many rivers in the region are grossly polluted and huge portions of their drainage basins and floodplains have been deforested or otherwise degraded.
