mobile-phones-in-cambodia-2014
This 2014 study is one of several by the Open Institute tracking trends in phone use in Cambodia. The study explores the knowledge, attitude and practices of phone users in relation to Khmer language typing, writing and searching habits, as well as the motivating factors in the use of Khmer script. It also investigates trends in the use of Khmer-enabled phones to communicate via mobile phones. The authors find that almost 94% of Cambodians claim to own their own phone, and more than 99% are reachable by phone. 51.3% of Cambodians own phones capable of communicating in Khmer script. 28.4% of the phones found were smartphones. The study concludes that the number of Khmer-enabled phones has reached the necessary critical mass for facilitating communication in Khmer.
