This article outlines the development of casinos in border towns in the Mekong sub-region, with particular focus on casinos on the Cambodia/Vietnam border. The increased connectivity of the region and growth of infrastructure has led to economic growth in border towns; accompanying this is the growth in number of casinos. In Cambodia and elsewhere, casinos are a significant source of tax revenue. However they also have an impact on human security and safety.
