The author explore three dominant issues that influence the sustainable management aquatic resources in the Mekong, namely (1) resource utilisation and its impact on livelihoods; (2) institutional constraints; and (3) limited availability and consumption of usable knowledge. Prepared for the Mekong Region Waters Dialogue, Vientiane, Laos, 6-7 July 2006.
