Challenges to independent media 2016

This is an annual report of challenges to independent media in 2016 released by Cambodian Center for Independent Media (CCIM). The key finding of the report including: 1) No physical attacks or lawsuits against journalists for doing their jobs; 2) Low pay was cited as the biggest problem facing independent media, followed by government control over the media and a lack of access to information; 3) Publishers and owners were seen as being the most likely source of interference or repercussions against independent journalists, followed by authorities and politicians; 4) Border issues and corruption were viewed as the most difficult topics to cover, while health and crime were seen as the easiest; 5) Low pay and a culture of corruption were tied as the most significant factors leading to unethical practices among journalists.
