Sustainable organic agriculture: Opportunity for Thai-rural farmer development

This paper analysed the opportunities of rural farmers in north Thailand and factors influencing their incomes. Between January 2012 and October 2012 the author interviewed 124 households from four provinces. The results showed that the relationships between both organic and inorganic land and income level were positive. Most of the farmers were willing to change from conventional to organic agriculture but they did not have enough information from government and private sectors. Comparing benefits and costs of conventional and organic agriculture found that organic methods provided better prices and quality of life for farmers.
